Location - Haut-Katanga province, DRC, South Africa
Responsible for the overall management of the Musonoi Hydrology and Geohydrology study. Assists in staffing, outlining project plans, setting project goals/deadlines, and evaluating budget and performance. Maintain high level of safety and customer satisfaction.
Key responsibilities:
Over the course of a project, the Project Manager will need to communicate with staff and clients, make decisions and monitor the progress of the project to keep it on schedule. Important duties and responsibilities for a Project Manager include:
- Creating long- and short-term plans, including setting targets for milestones, adhering to deadlines and allocating resources.
- Delegating tasks on the project to employees best positioned to complete them
- Identifying and managing potential risks and liabilities of multiple projects
- Assisting in the definition of project scope and goals: Project Charter
- Assisting in the definition of the Project Readiness Plan
- Assisting in the definition of the Project Tender Documentation
- Develop Project Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and Organisational Breakdown Structure.
- Making effective decisions when presented with multiple options for how to progress with the project Business Case
- Serving as a point of contact for teams when multiple units are assigned to the same project to ensure team actions remain in synergy
- Communicating with executives or the board to keep the project aligned with their goals
- Performing quality control on the project throughout development to maintain the standards expected
- Adjusting schedules and targets on the project as needed
- Motivating people involved in the project to complete tasks on time
- Budgeting, cost control and performance monitoring
- Ensure appropriate facilities, procedures and workforce competence to achieve legal compliance, incident prevention and the achievement of tasks in an environmentally sustainable manner
- Review and improve systems based on the monitoring, reporting and improvement ideas of direct reports and teams.
- Develop and deliver progress reports
- Establish and maintain relationships with third parties
- Identifying the risks in their work area and provide corrective measures
- Ensure personnel are adequately inducted in their work area and are aware of all workplace rules and critical procedures applying at RTR Mine
- Inspect all work areas before work commences and ensure all JSA or HIRA area available.
- Ensure all SWPS, SOPs, PTOs, JSA, HIRA are up to standard and filed.
Key requirements:
BSc (Honours) (Hydrology and or Geohydrology)
Strong leadership, managerial and presentation skills
The ability to manage a team of professionals including mentoring and motivation.
Exposure to multi-national, ethnic and cultural environments
Essential: An undergraduate qualification (Bachelors / Honours Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in Geosciences.
Role-specific knowledge:
High level knowledge and understanding of:
- Project management software, tools, techniques and methods
- Knowledge of general management practices in an applied technical environment; e.g. finance (budget, accounting, governance), project management, SHEC (systems management and application, practical procedures, leadership, people management and development.
- 5-10 years relevant industry experience of which at least 5 years should be at a senior management level heading projects.
- Ensure all members of the team have clearly defined accountabilities and roles and that individual development plans are in place to enable goals to be achieved
- Able to sit for normal hours to prepare reports
- Long working hours
- Able to supervise multiple tasks in the field
- Understanding of the Project Management Institute (PMI) framework
- Knowledge of various project management methodologies (e.g., agile/scrum)
