We’re looking for a motivated localization engineer to join the Smartcat team and support our efforts in building beautiful automated localization experiences for our end customers. Localization engineer role combines the responsibilities of a software engineer and a customer success specialist. We need a person who is focused on both giving customers the best technical solution, and offering them a great overall support experience, from understanding their needs, to educating them about best practices.
Mission
Smartcat develops collaboration software that allows a multi-sided marketplace of brands, agencies, and freelance linguists to translate content together. We're focused on automation, from file delivery to management to payments. We have a technological stack that allows us to set up robust automation and file processing rules, and to seamlessly integrate localization into customers' product or content development processes. Your mission will be to support our clients (end customers and language vendors), both using our existing stack capabilities, and building extra functionality on top of it.
Your responsibilities
1) Own localization automation needs of our clients, from understanding their requirements during discovery calls, to documenting them, to providing and deploying automation solutions.
2) Improve and maintain documentation and blueprints for typical automation projects.
3) Write and maintain custom plugins / parsers / synchronization scripts for specific automation needs.
Requirements

Knowledge of programming or scripting languages (e.g. Python, PHP, Perl, JavaScript), shell scripts, and technologies like SQL, regular expressions, caching.

Experience working with different file formats, parsers, text processing pipelines.

Experience working with customers for technical troubleshooting, problem solving, and onboarding.

Fluent Russian and English, both written and spoken.

Openness to feedback, opinions and ideas.

Deep passion for localization, internationalization and knowledge of tools, approaches, and best practices.

Exceptional communication skills to interact with colleagues and customers.

Readiness to work in a highly intense startup environment, requiring extreme focus, a sense of urgency, and persistence to break through.
