REMOTE position for one of the top-rated global news/publishing companies in the world. New York, USA.
You will:
- Contribute to technical discussions to gather requirements and develop product features or solutions while maintaining standard methodologies
- Research and document proposed solutions
- Support our Production systems and respond to service requests
- Improve how our systems run in Production
- Build and maintain server-side applications and tooling
- Write unit and integration tests
- Refactor code to make it more testable, maintainable, and modular
- Develop processes for automating, testing, and deploying your work
- Collaborate with Project Management and Product Management and other professionals within your team and across the organization
- Contribute to our mission of reaching 10+ million paid subscriptions by 2025
- Report to the Engineering Manager responsible for Core Subscription Systems
For this role, you should:
- Have empathy for existing solutions and issues
- Have pride in your work
- Be ready to work in a collegial environment with peers from diverse backgrounds and skills
- Be a committed bug finder
- Enjoy commenting your code
You should apply if you:
- Have at least 3 years of programming experience in Java, or other similar backend programming languages
- Are familiar with the Spring Framework (Spring Boot preferred)
- Have experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery techniques and tooling (Jenkins, ansible)
- Understand SQL, data modeling, and relational database systems (Oracle preferred)
- Understand version control (git, svn, or other)
And you have experience with or are interest in learning:
- Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) best practices
- System design and architecture, with an emphasis on building for scale
- Docker/Kubernetes
- Public cloud platform services: Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Multi-tier application architecture & concepts of networking, load balancing, monitoring and *nix OS
