About International Montessori Center - Otrada (IMC-Otrada)
IMC-Otrada educates and cares for children from birth to six using the authentic Montessori Method of education. We currently have a Casa dei Bambini with children aged three to six and a Toddler class with children aged one to three.
About Montessori Education
Montessori is an innovative, child-centered approach to education. It was developed a century ago by Maria Montessori, a woman who was far ahead of her time. Montessori uses mixed-age classrooms, student choice of activity, uninterrupted blocks of work time, and a discovery model of education where students learn concepts from working with specially designed materials instead of direct instruction. Teachers and assistants do more observing than correcting of children.
The Assistant’s Role in a Montessori Classroom
The assistant has an essential role to fill in a Montessori classroom. He or she must assure that the class runs smoothly during times when the lead teacher is busy with instruction. This might involve anything from helping children resolve a dispute that cannot be settled independently, to putting out clean towels and washcloths, to answering a work question a child might have. The assistant gets to know the children very well and aids in their development, not by doing things for them, but by helping the children to help themselves.
The assistant will
- assist the lead Montessori teacher in creating an enriching atmosphere in the Casa dei Bambini (ages 3-6) classroom;
- make observations of the children to help guide the teacher’s instruction;
- assist the lead Montessori teacher to communicate with parents by translating;
- maintain an orderly environment by cleaning, dusting, and straightening the classroom;
- and supervise outdoor activities.
Training, mentioned below, will be provided by IMC-Otrada.
Academics/Education
The assistant should have language skills in both English and Russian. The success of the assistant will depend upon the communication between lead teacher and assistant. Also, the assistant should possess a passion for learning and a willingness to share hobbies or interests with the children.
Personal Attitudes
Montessori education is not the usual way of educating. Therefore, the ideal candidate will be honestly interested in doing things a different way. Anyone interested in this position should find out more about Montessori education. Obviously, the assistant will work with children aged three to six and should be comfortable with these ages and respectful of the difficult and important work they do to develop. This position is great for people looking to do something out of the ordinary.
Learning and Development Opportunities
The assistant will work under the tutelage of the lead Montessori teacher. Various seminars and trainings at IMC-Otrada will be provided for gaining advanced knowledge of Montessori education and philosophy.
Working hours: 8:00-16:00
IMC-Otrada is located in «Otrada» residential area, 3 km from «Mitino» following Pyatnitskoe shosse; less than 10 min from Metro «Pyatnitskoe shosse».
